Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #3

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.968/191.13, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.129/185.79, Was #10

12:14 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 27 percent, barometer 29.94 inches, adjusted altitude 1,533 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

The weather is great for racing today and we should see a lot of movement. Sampey takes advantage of the cool air with a great pass, a track record ET, to take the top spot for now.


Left Lane: Jim Randolph Runs 7.192/188.94, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.462/183.34, Was #21
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 17.532/47.17, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.302/177.95, Was #20

Ray has problems off the line and clicks it off. Randolph makes his quickest pass of the weekend but still doesn't get in the show.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.029/190.27, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.131/179.83, Was #11
Right Lane: Barry Henson Runs 7.115/187.86, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.195/182.90, Was #20

Johnson goes right down the groove to move up to the fourth spot for now. Henson improves and gets in the show for now.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.059/189.02, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.186/183.24, Was #19
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.160/187.60, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.173/186.98, Was #17

Stoffer drifted to the right but held on for a good run to get in the field. Gann misses a great chance to get in the show.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.593/187.68, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.180/187.76, Was #19
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.166/187.26, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.162/185.15, Was #18

DeSantis' bike stumbles off the line and he slows. Phillips makes a decent pass but no improvement.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.072/187.44, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.157/183.15, Was #16
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.015/190.11, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.114/186.72, Was #11

Berry improves and gets off the bump. Arana makes a big move to the third spot.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.055/187.52, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.154/181.94, Was #16
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.006/190.06, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.095/184.83, Was #11

Guidera has a little wiggle right off the line. He keeps it under control and gets off the bump. Brown goes right down the groove and moves into the third spot.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.141/191.57, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.137/187.76, Was #16
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.086/187.76, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.065/186.20, Was #11

Scali doesn't improve and stays on the bump. No help for Smith.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 6.989/192.49, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.123/186.36, Was #15
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.000/188.96, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.060/188.33, Was #10

Treble makes a big move and gets in the second spot. Krawiec gets in the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 6.992/190.65, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.096/183.47, Was #14
Right Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 6.956/190.70, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.056/186.98, Was #10

Rivas makes a great pass and sets the track record. Llewellyn goes right down Broadway and moves up to the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.915/192.99, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.018/188.60, Was #9
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.892/193.21, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.997/187.44, Was #5

WOW!!!! A great side-by-side to finish the session. Ellis makes the quickest pass of the session and the second quickest pass in the history of Pro Stock Motorcycle to take the pole. Hines was right behind and will finish this round in the second spot.
