Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #4

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.012/188.31, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.070/186.51, Was #9

11:02 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.25 inches, adjusted altitude 2,217 feet, track temperature 94 degrees. Geno Scali is on the bump spot at 7.151.

Brown will be out first as he wasn't able to make a pass in the last session. He makes up for it with a clean and straight run into the current #3 spot.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.986/190.83, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.091/187.83, Was #13
Right Lane: Buddy Robinson Runs 7.344/180.45, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.464/175.66, Was #28

Johnson didn't run either and makes near a career best pass to take over the current #2 spot. Robinson runs well too, but will not make the field this session.

Left Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.492/175.48, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.631/170.36, Was #29
Right Lane: Darin McCurdy Runs 7.342/180.91, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.313/179.61, Was #24

Schnitz runs a lot better, but not good enough.

Left Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 9.167/98.07, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.403/172.81, Was #28
Right Lane: David Hope Runs 7.614/177.18, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.355/175.07, Was #26

DeLong's bike won't shift and he slows. Hope can't match his prior best.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.485/182.62, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.289/181.52, Was #22
Right Lane: Dean Frantz Runs 7.374/180.21, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.359/175.80, Was #27

Geno Scali is on the bump spot at 7.151. Underdahl runs out of the groove and it costs him.

Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.209/172.32, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.147/186.10, Was #15

Gann will make a single and doesn't improve. Geno Scali is on the bump spot at 7.151.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.082/188.81, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.167/184.80, Was #19
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.359/187.63, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.180/187.13, Was #21

DeSantis' bike is a dog off the line and he will not improve.Nice pass for Phillips and he bumps into the field for now.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.020/188.23, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.079/186.00, Was #13
Right Lane: Tom Bradford Runs 7.119/184.75, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.140/181.96, Was #15

Shawn Gann is on the bump spot at 7.147. Both bikes improve and Guidera gets the best of it, moving six spots into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Wes Wells Runs 7.151/186.23, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.169/183.69, Was #20
Right Lane: Barry Henson Runs 7.067/186.87, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.151/185.38, Was #18

WOW! Henson finds a bunch of power and misses matching his career best by 0.001. He moves solidly into the field. Wells improves and still doesn't qualify. Tom Bradford is on the bump spot at 7.119.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.080/186.67, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.155/184.27, Was #20
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.155/189.04, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.151/186.59, Was #18

Scali doesn't improve, but Berry does. Strong clean pass and he moves into the current #15 spot. Michael Phillips is on the bump spot at 7.082.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.123/166.68, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.018/188.31, Was #6
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.977/189.58, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.030/186.79, Was #9

Stoffer clicks it early for no apparent reason. Smith uses the Buell power to run into the sixes and the current #2 spot.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.954/190.83, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.044/188.83, Was #10
Right Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 7.011/190.19, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.029/187.34, Was #9

Good Stuff! Arana makes a career best run and takes over the current top spot.Llewellyn is right behind him and move three spots up to the top half of the field for now.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.085/186.10, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.078/183.84, Was #14
Right Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 6.977/189.47, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.016/187.39, Was #8

Rivas joins the six club for the weekend and takes the current #4 spot. Krawiec slows from his best.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 6.978/192.11, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.076/188.44, Was #13
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.968/191.40, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.007/189.18, Was #6

Nice side by side six second passes. Both bikes move well up the ladder. We need one more six run to have a six second top half of the field!

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.075/190.16, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.048/184.17, Was #12
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.990/187.83, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.970/188.78, Was #3

Sampey's bike spins off the line and Ellis makes another six second run to end the session.

11:22 a.m. One more chance this afternoon with Hector Arana on the top with a grat 6.954 and Michael Phillips on the bump spot at 7.082.
