Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.068/188.28, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.970/188.78, Was #1
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.158/189.52, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.144/189.26, Was #12

2:15 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 39 percent, barometer 29.25 inches, adjusted altitude 2,439 feet, track temperature 114 degrees. The first four pairs will also be the first round of the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Challenge

Neither bike can improve on their round one times.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.030/186.79, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.067/187.70, Was #7
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.070/185.82, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.018/188.31, Was #2

Smith improves on his performance, but will stay #7. Stoffer slows a little from yesterday.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.117/182.77, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.091/187.83, Was #10
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.048/184.17, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.030/186.79, Was #4

No joy, as both are slower than their prior run.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.007/189.18, Now #2; Best prior run: 10.063/84.50, Was #28
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.075/185.82, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.070/186.51, Was #8

Hines finally gets a full pull and moves into the #2 position for now.Brown runs close to yesterday's times.

Left Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.631/170.36, Now #28; Best prior run: 13.973/54.57, Was #29
Right Lane: Darin McCurdy Runs 7.313/179.61, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.699/134.12, Was #27

Schnitz gets a run he can tune to and will get another chance later. McCurdy improves too.

Left Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 7.403/172.81, Now #26; Best prior run: 8.224/118.11, Was #29
Right Lane: Buddy Robinson No Time, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.464/175.66, Was #27

Robinson breaks after the burnout. DeLong has to use a lot of body english to keep the bike straight.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 7.308/180.00, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.393/176.63, Was #25
Right Lane: Dean Frantz Runs 7.359/175.80, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.449/175.21, Was #27

Mike Berry is on the bump spot at 7.167. Both bikes improve with clean passes, but will not qualify this session.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.359/182.95, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.289/181.52, Was #22
Right Lane: David Hope Runs 7.374/174.82, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.355/175.07, Was #25

No joy for these two, as they can't improve.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.167/184.80, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.240/181.42, Was #20
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.151/186.59, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.254/186.18, Was #21

Phillips spins hard off the line and just misses the bump. Scali gets a clean pass and moves into the field in the current #15 sot.

Left Lane: Wes Wells Runs 9.063/96.09, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.191/183.59, Was #21
Right Lane: Tom Bradford Runs 7.140/181.96, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.183/181.64, Was #20

Barry Henson is on the bump spot at 7.161. Wells starts to drift towards the wall on the top end and lifts.Nice pass for Bradford and he moves seven positions up the ladder to bump Henson.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.155/184.27, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.167/184.62, Was #19
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 8.064/161.67, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.180/187.13, Was #20

DeSantis gets way out of the groove right off the starting line. Berry just misses the tough field.

Right Lane: Barry Henson Runs 7.151/185.38, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.161/184.52, Was #18

Running the second duplicate bump spot ET will keep an improving Henson out of the field

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.115/185.95, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.115/183.47, Was #12
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.150/186.48, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.147/186.10, Was #15

Krawiec matches his prior run, while Gann slows just a little.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.102/185.56, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.079/186.00, Was #10
Right Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.016/187.39, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.035/187.05, Was #6

No joy for Guidera, but Rivas finds some more power to take over the current #3 spot. Nice!

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.091/187.68, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.044/188.83, Was #7
Right Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 7.040/185.66, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.029/187.34, Was #5

Last pair of the session. Both bikes slow a little from yesterday's best.

2:37 p.m. Chip Ellis is still #1 with a 6.970 and Geno Scali is on the bump spot at 7.151.
