GM Racing Director Makes RACER's Powerful and Influential List for Second Straight Year

Mark Kent
Mark Kent, director of GM Racing, was named one of RACER magazine's 24 powerful and influential individuals in the motorsports industry. Kent joins the ranks of the France family, Chevrolet driver and 2005 Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart, IRL founder Tony George and prominent people in today's auto racing community who help make the sport exhilarating, relevant, safe and entertaining.

Kent was named to the list for overseeing GM's success in a cross section of motor racing, including Chevrolet's two consecutive Nextel Cup driver and manufacturer titles, Corvette's unprecedented success in the ALMS GT1 class and stellar seasons by Pontiac in NHRA Pro-Stock and Grand American and Cadillac in the SPEED World Challenge. It is the second consecutive year Kent joins the powerful and influential list in less than two years in his GM Racing position.

"It's an honor to be included among so many influential and respected names in the sport," said Kent, "but this recognition is really a reflection of General Motors and its recognition of the importance of participating in motorsports."

"GM recognizes the value of racing," Kent added. "Chevrolet, Pontiac and Cadillac all see racing as a cost-effective way to place our products in front of automotive enthusiasts. Another factor in the success of our racing programs is GM's commitment to a strong technical program. We're committed to offering our teams the people, parts and processes that no other manufacturer can offer. GM's technical resources play a major role in our ongoing success in all series where we compete".

Kent, who has managed several production car engine ventures in his previous assignments, took over as the GM Racing director on March 1, 2005. Kent draws from his experiences in the GM Motorsports Technology group (formerly Chevy Raceshop) in the late 1980s and early '90s, and his production expertise, as he currently oversees technical activities for all GM Racing programs.
