Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.570/327.19, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.643/93.88, Was #21
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.571/326.48, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.584/327.66, Was #9

This is the first round of the Budweiser Shootout. Grubnic with a great looking pass to get into the top half of the show. Fuller moves into the top half of the show with this pass. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.115/273.88mph, 1,000ft-3.894
Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.190, 660ft-3.118/272.23mph, 1,000ft-3.896

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 5.669/317.42, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.530/327.74, Was #3
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 9.055/87.21, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.544/331.61, Was #4

Kalitta was up in smoke, but pedaled it and was able to get it to hook up. Bernstein was up in smoke early and couldn't get it to recover.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 8.601/87.98, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.574/327.43, Was #9
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.587/325.22, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.587/325.22, Was #13

Troxel lost traction early and clicked it off. Dixon with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will stay in the number 13 position.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.500/324.59, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.445/333.08, Was #1
Right Lane: David Baca Runs 4.597/322.42, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.748/300.13, Was #19

Schumacher with another great looking pass. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.066/278.23mph, 1,000ft-3.830 Baca used up an engine on this pass, but got into the show.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.583/324.20, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.588/123.98, Was #20
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.831/247.29, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.585/171.36, Was #19

Vandergriff with a real nice pass to get into the show. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.201, 660ft-3.121/273.66mph, 1,000ft-3.902 Palmer with his best pass of the weekend, but will come up short. The Safety Safari is rolling, so there must be some oil in Palmer's lane.

Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.727/295.79, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.689/311.05, Was #19

Millican was mixing up some cylinders on the top end and he will have one more shot to make this tough field.

Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 4.919/294.05, Now #21; Best prior run: 4.994/297.88, Was #20
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 4.662/327.82, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.633/323.66, Was #15

Hartley was in the show when we started this round, and he was not able to get back into the show here. Chrisman with his best pass of the weekend, but will not get into the show.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 5.854/152.45, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.632/296.70, Was #16
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 4.583/326.56, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.676/323.97, Was #18

Lucas was up in smoke by 400 feet and clicked it off. Torrence was real loose and did a great job driving it in only his second event behind the wheel of a Top Fueler. Oh yeah a career best E.T. and mph for Torrence as he gets in the show and bumps out Lucas.

Left Lane: Mike Strasburg Runs 8.699/99.89, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.632/326.56, Was #16
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.536/329.10, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.581/326.48, Was #10

Strasburg was up in smoke early and clicked it off. Cory Mac with a great looking pass, second quick of the session to move up to the number four spot.

Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 8.593/82.82, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.584/326.24, Was #13
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 7.416/115.47, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.564/324.28, Was #7

They are both up in smoke at almost the exact same time.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.526/320.20, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.557/320.89, Was #6
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 4.567/325.92, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.527/327.11, Was #2

Todd with a great looking pass, straight to the number two spot. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.155, 660ft-3.062/276.97mph, 1,000ft-3.837 Will with another nice pass.
