Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations

LAS VEGAS - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual Budweiser Shootout:

12:31 p.m. This is Grubnic's third Bud Shootout. He won the event in 2004. This is Fuller's first shootout.

A good drag race, Fuller leaves first and starts to pull away. Grubnic starts making up ground after the 330'foot mark but runs out of racetrack.

This is Kalitta's ninth trip to the Bud Shootout. He won in '02 and '03. This is Bernstein's 4th time in this event. His dad Kenny won this event twice in Top Fuel, twice in Funny Car.

Kalitta comes off the line first but goes up in smoke about 200 feet out. Bernstein drives around quickly and starts to pull away. Kalitta pedals a couple of times, the slicks bite, then Bernstein goes up in smoke about 400 feet out. Kalitta drives around him before they get to half-track and pulls away for the win.

Doug Kalitta's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.068), 330 ft(-0.572), 660ft(0.182), 1,000ft(1.698). MOV: 3.4055 seconds (more than 100 feet).

This is Dixon's 12th time in this event. He won in '95, '01 and '02. Troxel is making her first appearance in this event.

Troxel comes off the line first, then strikes the tires about 200 feet out. Dixon drives around her before they reach the 330 foot mark and pulls away for the win.

Schumacher is the defending champ in this event. This is the 8th year in a row he has qualified for the Shootout. This is Baca's 2nd appearance, the first being in '03.

Baca leaves a little too quickly and gives Schumacher the win.

In the next round it will be Schumacher with lane choice over Fuller, Dixon with lane choice over Kalitta.
