Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 4.676/323.97, Now #10; No Prior Run
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 7.643/93.88, Now #18; Best prior run: 10.509/83.88, Was #21

Torrence didn't make a pass in the first round when the crew found a problem with the seat belts when they were in the lanes. He comes out first tonight and makes a great looking pass to get into the show. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.269, 660ft-3.212/270.00mph, 1,000ft-3.997 Grubnic is up in smoke early and coasts on through the 1320.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.581/326.48, Now #5; Best prior run: 8.606/80.46, Was #20
Right Lane: Rob Passey Runs 11.068/81.67, Now #22; Best prior run: 10.246/73.36, Was #22

Passey is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. McClenathan launched hard and keep the Goodyears hooked up all the way down the 1320.

Left Lane: Scott Palmer No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.585/171.36, Was #16
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.632/296.70, Now #10; Best prior run: 9.331/95.01, Was #21

Palmer broke on the burnout and will have to wait for tomorrow. Lucas with a nice pass until about 1100 feet when it appeared the engine went away with a quick flash of fire.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 13.041/65.38, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.689/311.05, Was #13
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.544/331.61, Now #2; Best prior run: 8.146/91.84, Was #21

Millican is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Bernstein was straight down the groove into the number two spot. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.183, 660ft-3.100/275.00mph, 1,000ft-3.874

Left Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 10.903/81.63, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.633/323.66, Was #12
Right Lane: Mike Strasburg Runs 4.632/326.56, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.341/116.91, Was #20

Hartley is up in smoke right off the starting line. Strasburg with a real nice pass to get into the show, and he bumped out Baca.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 10.737/82.53, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.603/329.42, Was #9
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.588/123.98, Was #20

Dixon was up in smoke right off the starting line and clicked it off. Vandergriff launched hard and started to smoke the tires and pedaled it. When he pedaled it the front end came up on him and when it came back to earth the car got the half track cones.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.564/324.28, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.585/322.04, Was #8
Right Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 5.213/213.60, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.994/297.88, Was #18

Another good looking pass here for Herbert to move into the top half of the field. Chrisman was slowing from the 330-foot mark on.

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 5.754/153.79, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.584/327.66, Was #8
Right Lane: David Baca Runs 4.748/300.13, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.759/316.38, Was #17

Baca with his best run of the day, but will not get into the show. Fuller launched hard and was on a good run until the engine let go with a big fireball.

Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 4.527/327.11, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.561/321.27, Was #4
Right Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 4.584/326.24, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.692/309.70, Was #16

This was a great drag race with Will going to the number three spot. Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.072/275.28mph, 1,000ft-3.849 Bradshaw was right there with her. Alan Bradshaw's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.187, 660ft-3.116/271.24mph, 1,000ft-3.902

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.530/327.74, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.555/326.79, Was #4
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.557/320.89, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.624/318.24, Was #11

This was great drag race with the header flames shooting right up to the rear wing all the way down the 1320. Kalitta moves up one spot and Todd moves into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.445/333.08, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.523/328.06, Was #1
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 10.423/83.80, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.574/327.43, Was #7

Melanie was up in smoke early and clicked it off. Schumacher with the quickest pass here at Las Vegas and the seventh quickest in the history of the sport. This was a picture perfect pass. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.122, 660ft-3.022/280.08mph, 1,000ft-3.785
