Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Sixth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Pete Carbery Runs 7.801/132.78, Now #1

This is the first time Carbery has had the car out since Las Vegas fall race of 2004. It sounded like the car never shifted and Carbery shut it off.

Left Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.832/201.82, Now #1
Right Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 6.907/200.26, Now #2

Hartford in the Steve Schmidt Pro Stocker and has a nice pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Bob Panella Runs 6.841/202.33, Now #3
Right Lane: Tommy Brown Runs 6.821/202.79, Now #1

Brown with a nice pass and goes to the number one spot for now.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin No Time, Now #7
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.798/202.94, Now #1

Coughlin is 20 to 1 by the casino, while Koretsky started the weekend at 30 to 1. As soon as the light went green Coughlin's car didn't move and was pushed off the starting line. Koretsky with a nice pass to go to the number one spot.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.886/199.43, Now #5
Right Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 6.952/197.57, Now #7

Watson was real loose right off the starting and made a move toward the centerline before he reeled it in. Rizzo with a clean pass.

Left Lane: Tommy Lee Runs 6.784/203.49, Now #1
Right Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.811/202.39, Now #3

Lee with a great looking pass, straight down the groove for the number one spot and ties WJ's track mph record. Tommy Lee's incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.837, 660ft-4.364/161.44mph, 1,000ft-5.678 Good pass for Northrop to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Max Naylor Runs 18.081/42.26, Now #12
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.787/203.65, Now #2

Naylor with tire shake right off the starting line and clicked it off. Martino launched hard and keep it hooked up and went to the number two spot.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.806/202.24, Now #5
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.800/202.42, Now #4

These two were side by side all the way down the track.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.818/202.61, Now #7
Right Lane: Richie Stevens No Time, Now #18

Stevens can't get the car to fire and is pushed out of the burnout box. WJ was sluggish right off the starting line.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 12.593/93.97, Now #16
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.805/202.61, Now #5

Gaines with a lot of tire spin the right tire more than left and the car made a quick move toward the centerline. He shut it off. Morgan straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.796/202.94, Now #3
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.824/201.25, Now #11

Stanfield was 15 to 1 in the casinos to start the weekend. Stanfield with a good clean pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.764/203.03, Now #1
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.809/202.85, Now #9

Kurt Johnson in his Billy Gibbons ACDelco car drove through tire shake right off the starting line. There was a special unveiling of Johnson's car, it is a very nice looking car. Allen Johnson launched hard and a great pass for the track record E.T. and the number one spot.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.774/203.61, Now #3
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.770/203.40, Now #2

This was a great drag race with both of these cars running quicker that Pro Stock track record coming into this session. Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-1.006 sec., 330ft-2.831, 660ft-4.355/161.67mph, 1,000ft-5.667
Dave Connolly's incremental times: 60ft-1.007 sec., 330ft-2.830, 660ft-4.353/161.44mph, 1,000ft-5.664

Left Lane: Greg Anderson No Time, Now #28
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.756/204.26, Now #1

Anderson with his new Rick Jones' car in which they have 15 test passes on, none of which were full passes was timed out. Line with a great looking pass straight down the groove for the number one spot and the track E.T. and mph records. He needs to go one round further than Anderson this weekend to win his second POWERade championship.
