Inaugural Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals Special Awards

DINWIDDIE, Va. -- Special Awards from the Inaugural Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals.

Budweiser Shootout award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel) - Tony Schumacher, Long Grove, Ill., U.S. Army dragster, 4.512 seconds, 313.37 mph.

Skoal Showdown award ($4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car) - Eric Medlen, Indianapolis, Castrol Syntec Ford Mustang, 4.728 seconds, 311.49 mph.

NHRA King Demon Crown award ($3,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock) - Jason Line, Terrell, N.C., Summit Racing Pontiac GTO, 6.571 seconds, 209.49 mph.

Motel 6 "Who Got the Light" award ($1,000 to the individual Top Fuel, Funny Car, or Pro Stock driver who earns an elimination round win by the narrowest margin.) - Mike Ashley defeated Tony Pedregon by a .0052-second margin of victory in the first round of Funny Car eliminations.

Strange Engineering "Perfectly Strange" performance award ($250 bonus to the first racer in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street who wins an elimination round by running dead-on their dial-in or index) - Doug Chervanik in Stock and Dave Morris in Super Gas.

Brut "Essence of Racing" award ($1,000 to the Sportsman-level participant that best exemplifies the Brut spirit of racing) Fordyce Racing Super Gas entries. Drivers: Jim and Ray Fordyce, Glassboro, N.J.

Hedman Hedders Best Engineered Vehicle ($1,000 to the best engineered vehicle) - Maximum Effort II Chevrolet Corvette Competition Eliminator entry. Driver: Rick Hord, Kissimmee, Fla.

NHRA Best Appearing Crew - Freedom Roads Competition entry and Stock entry. Drivers: David Rampy, Piedmont, Ala.

NHRA Best Appearing Car - VP/Champion/Fram/Racegirl Top Alcohol Dragster entry. Driver: Dave Hirata, Lowell, Ind.

Full Throttle Pit Crew Championship ($3,000 each to Top Fuel and Funny Car's top crew, $1,500 to Pro Stock's top crew, and $750 to Pro Stock Motorcycle's top crew):
Top Fuel: Larry Dixon/Donnie Bender Miller Lite dragster crew.
Funny Car: John Force/Austin Coil Castrol GTX Ford Mustang crew.
Pro Stock: Greg Anderson/Rob Downing/Jeff Perley Summit Racing Pontiac GTO crew.
