By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Alcohol Funny Car at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Alan Tarapaski No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.275/197.36, Was #13
Right Lane: John Evanchuk No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.148/228.15, Was #10

4:31 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 28.15 inches, adjusted altitude 3,477 feet, track temperature 109 degrees.

This got off to a bad start, Tarapaski unable to get the car into reverse after the burnout, then failing to clear the top end of the track when he tried to drive it off. After a short delay, track workers signaled Evanchuk to shut it off and he was pushed back to cool the car off.

Left Lane: Cal Tebb Runs 6.486/179.66, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.646/206.92, Was #12

Roger Bateman is on the bump spot at 6.020, by the way. Evanchuk was on a decent pass to half track, then there was a puff of smoke and his pace slowed after being clocked at 180 mph at half track.

Left Lane: Scott McVey No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.408/219.40, Was #11
Right Lane: Nathan Sitko Runs 6.248/221.49, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.144/223.84, Was #9

McVey popped the burst panel on the burnout and pulled over next to the wall. The track crew pushed him back to clear the track for Sitko. Sitko gave it a good effort, but lost a tenth from his previous best and is down to one last shot, tonight.

Left Lane: Thomas Carter Runs 5.971/239.57, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.993/226.89, Was #7
Right Lane: Roger Bateman Runs 13.434/62.91, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.020/233.28, Was #8

Bateman launched into instant tire shake, then his car chugged its way down the track. Carter made a nice pass, moving up to the fifth spot. Unfortunately for him, the new ladder pairings this year mean he'd run #1 in the first round of he does not improve again tonight.

Left Lane: Kevin Therres Runs 11.321/76.14, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.993/232.35, Was #7
Right Lane: Ken Kraus Runs 6.012/231.56, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.938/233.52, Was #4

Therres boiled the rear tires for a couple hundred feet before lifting. Kraus made a good run, but he has steadily gotten slower on each run down the track.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.943/234.61, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.984/213.74, Was #6
Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 7.926/112.60, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.935/241.89, Was #3

McMillen made his best run of the event and now he's positioned to run #1 in eliminations. Atchison shook early and lifted before half track.

Right Lane: Trevor Lebsack Runs 5.962/234.78, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.920/233.28, Was #2

lebsack failed to improve, but did a nice job of driving to keep the car in his lane without completely abandoning the run, the car way left of the groove in the middle of the run.

Left Lane: Alan Tarapaski No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.275/197.36, Was #13
Right Lane: John Evanchuk Runs 6.771/229.51, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.148/228.15, Was #10

Evanchuk was shut off in the first apir of this round and this time around his car tried to turn right on the burnout. Tarapaski stalled on the track in that earlier pairing, forcing Evanchuk to come back, and was not eligible to make the rerun. Evanchuk launched, shook, pedaled, then continued, failing to improve.
