Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #3
By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Knoll Gas - Torco Pro Stock at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 13.708/77.27, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.704/111.42, Was #16
Right Lane: Richard Penland Runs 6.615/212.03, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.647/210.70, Was #15

4:17 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 28.15 inches, adjusted altitude 3,477 feet, track temperature 109 degrees.

Goforth shook violently and lifted immediately. Penland's car did a bit of a dance early in the run, very loose, but he drove through it to improve. He stayed 15th, however.

Left Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 6.585/211.73, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.596/211.03, Was #14
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.545/212.86, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.524/213.03, Was #11

O'Brien picked up a hundredth, Spiess lost two.

Left Lane: Dan Sweeney Runs 6.547/212.59, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.567/212.43, Was #13
Right Lane: Rick Jones Runs 6.518/214.72, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.519/214.11, Was #10

Sweney also improved a couple hundredths, stayed put on the ladder. Jones improved a thousandth of a second and moved up one spot - the middle of the field is that tightly bunched.

Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 7.382/146.51, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.539/213.13, Was #12
Right Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 6.589/213.10, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.518/214.31, Was #10

Haas' car fishtailed a few times on the launch and that hurt his elapsed time. Morton lost a lot of ground to Haas in the first half of the track and lifted way before the line.

Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.519/213.77, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.508/213.91, Was #8
Right Lane: Rob Mansfield Runs 7.033/156.23, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.502/214.52, Was #7

No help for either driver, Mansfield shutting it off past half track.

Left Lane: Jeff Dobbins Runs 6.532/214.69, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.499/214.18, Was #6
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.506/213.20, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.497/213.57, Was #5

Looks like those who left something on the table last night have improved slightly this round, but those who made good runs last night can't quite match their prior best.

Left Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 6.499/214.28, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.484/213.23, Was #4
Right Lane: Pete Berner Runs 11.669/74.39, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.479/214.04, Was #3

Berner shook and slowed almost immediately. Nice pass by Gillig, best of the round so far.

Left Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.486/214.48, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.456/214.76, Was #2
Right Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.469/215.48, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.456/215.82, Was #1

Once again these two made the two best runs of the round, but neither could quite match their track-record-setting pace last night.
