EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Knoll Gas - Torco Pro Stock at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 6.539/213.13, Now #8; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rob Mansfield Runs 6.502/214.52, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.036/210.77, Was #14
7:45 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 28.10 inches, adjusted altitude 3,540 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.
The first-round qualifying sheet and Mansfield's tech card both clearly identified his car as a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, but it's really his '05 Chevy Cobalt.
Whatever it is, it's quick and fast, a nice
run by Mansfield to move way up in the field. Morton, who did not get here in time for round one, made a good out-of-the box pass
and we have a full field of Pro Stock cars.
Left Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 8.704/111.42, Now #16; Best prior run: 11.089/79.50, Was #16
Right Lane: Richard Penland Runs 6.647/210.70, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.656/210.28, Was #15
Goforth's car slowed early in the run, trailing light smoke. Penland's car was all over the first part of the track, but he improved slightly.
Left Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 6.674/210.24, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.596/211.03, Was #13
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.497/213.57, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.619/211.69, Was #14
Nice run by "Monty" to move way up in the order with just the second "forty" we've seen this weekend. O'Brien had a strong 60-foot time, but his car got loose before half track.
Left Lane: Dan Sweeney Runs 12.868/84.76, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.567/212.43, Was #12
Right Lane: Rick Jones Runs 6.519/214.11, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.596/212.36, Was #13
Nice run by Jones, with a big speed for the conditions. Sweeney shook hard immediately.
Left Lane: Jeff Dobbins Runs 6.499/214.18, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.563/212.59, Was #12
Right Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 6.518/214.31, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.548/213.20, Was #11
Two nice runs, Dobbins slowly pulling away from Haas all the way down the track.
Left Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 6.484/213.23, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.519/213.54, Was #9
Right Lane: Pete Berner Runs 6.479/214.04, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.527/213.57, Was #11
Two more great runs, both in the forties and under the track ET record, so Berner's ET is now the track record.
Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.508/213.91, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.518/213.98, Was #9
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 10.853/73.70, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.524/213.03, Was #11
Spiess' car did a big YAHA about 100 feet out and he lifted. Nobile e a nice run, improved a whole hundredth - enough to move to the top half of the field.
Left Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.456/214.76, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.517/213.27, Was #8
Right Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.456/215.82, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.490/214.89, Was #3
Absolutely amazing! Both cars were off like rockets and they ran identical elapsed times. Gugliotta gets the track ET record because he left first, got there first, and he also gets the track speed record as a bonus.
