Nitro Bikes Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Nitro Bikes at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Robert Smith Runs 13.563/79.07, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Schellenbrenner Runs 8.212/150.73, Now #1

5:39 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 41 percent, barometer 28.09 inches, adjusted altitude 3,215 feet, track temperature 103 degrees.

Nitro Harleys, Western-style, so they call them "Nitro Bikes" instead.

We start with a couple of busted runs, Smith off the throttle early with a sick-sounding engine, Schellenbrenner unable to get much power this time out.

Left Lane: Andy Beauchemin Runs 6.848/202.58, Now #1
Right Lane: Jody York Runs 9.083/108.05, Now #3

Nice run by Beauchemin, but the front wheel was down before half track.

Left Lane: George Welch Runs 7.408/178.99, Now #2
Right Lane: Brian Hall Runs 8.282/189.12, Now #4

Welch lost a lot of time early in the run. Hall smoked the tire hard.

Left Lane: Kevin Boyer Runs 6.903/201.97, Now #2
Right Lane: Ken Kent Runs 7.871/147.37, Now #4

Boyer ran it all the way through, but the front wheel was down early. Kent was half a second back at half track and losing ground.

Left Lane: Ron Houniet No Time, Now #10
Right Lane: Mike Scott Runs 9.940/108.54, Now #8

These are the only notro-fueled racers we will see in the afternoon session, Nitro Funny Car and Top Fuel only getting one "hit" today.

Houniet broke just off the starting line and rolled to sa stop, looking back at his chain. Scott struggled all the way, the engine struggling.
