Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

EDMONTON, Alb. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Alcohol Funny Car at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, CARS RV & Marine & Motorsports Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by TORCO Racing Fuels listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Roger Bateman Runs 6.050/231.75, Now #1
Right Lane: Alan Tarapaski Runs 7.275/197.36, Now #2

4:44 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 41 percent, barometer 28.09 inches, adjusted altitude 3,215 feet, track temperature 103 degrees.

Both drivers in this pair are "local," from Cities in Alberta.

Bateman made a nice run after some early tire shake. Tarapaski had problems getting the car "up on the tires" early in the run, posting a super-slow 1.187 60-foot time.

Left Lane: Nathan Sitko Runs 6.184/223.21, Now #2
Right Lane: Not on File Runs 6.646/206.92, Now #3

No data on the right-lane driver, a blue Avenger (as best we can tell from the rear of the car).

Right Lane: Scott McVey Runs 18.541/65.92, Now #5

McVey spun the tires hard, the shake so severe that several shiny, cylindrical parts came out from under the car and rolled down the track as he coasted through.

Left Lane: Ken Kraus Runs 5.938/233.52, Now #1
Right Lane: Kevin Therres Runs 5.993/232.35, Now #2

Nice pass by Krause, the unofficial track record holder with a 245.63 mph run here in August of last year on an exhibition run. Theres was not far behind, two strong runs by Canadian drivers.

Left Lane: John Evanchuk Runs 6.848/145.53, Now #7
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.984/213.74, Now #2

McMillen may have set a track record for launching the hood hatch, sending his a couple hundred feet in the air near the finish line. Evanchuk struggled to about 1,000 feet, then slowed.

Left Lane: Trevor Lebsack Runs 6.394/229.82, Now #7
Right Lane: Thomas Carter Runs 6.239/225.86, Now #6

Alan Tarapaski was on the bump spot at 7.275, Evanchuk next at 6.848.

Lebsack shook and skated out toward the wal, pedaled, then continued. Carter's car shook about 100 feet out and he also may have pedaled to get through it.

Left Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 8.684/99.73, Now #12
Right Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 6.003/213.37, Now #4

Not on File was on the bump spot at 6.646. Atchison's car shook and got very sideways, forcing him to lift. Thomas made a smooth, straight pass to close out the round.
