Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2

GRAND BEND, Ont. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Knoll Gas - Torco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, Mopar Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 6.552/211.76, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.522/212.46, Was #20
Right Lane: Dan Sweeney Runs 9.117/101.45, Now #25; Best prior run: 8.729/106.18, Was #25

2:58 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 29.46 inches,adjusted altitude 1,404 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

Once again conditions are excellent, so the track records set last night easily could be eclipsed in this session - and we have the "Night of Fire" to look forward to this evening. Jason Collins is on the bump spot at 6.487.

Sweeney's car spun the tires, made a hard left, then a hard right, and he lifted. Rice went right down the groove, could not match his run last night.


Left Lane: John Konigshofer Runs 6.496/214.48, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.520/214.03, Was #19
Right Lane: Michael Bruno Runs 6.460/216.76, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.217/135.44, Was #24

Bruno's car got out of shape early last night and was very loose again early in this run. However, this time he was able to tame it and complete the run. Konigshofer improved from last night, but not enough to make the cut. Now John Bartunek is on the bump spot at 6.480.

Left Lane: Jason Collins Runs 6.489/213.52, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.487/213.16, Was #17
Right Lane: Richard Penland Runs 6.517/212.46, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.646/186.48, Was #24

Collins was just bumped by Bruno. He made a good run here, but came up short. Penland's car was very slow in the first half of the track, but finished strong.

Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 9.274/98.72, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.479/214.59, Was #15
Right Lane: Bob Bertsch Runs 6.674/210.37, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.620/211.51, Was #24

Morton slowed before half track after getting left of the groove early in the run. bertsch failed to improve.

Left Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.576/213.87, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.456/215.31, Was #11
Right Lane: Tim Dooley Runs 11.859/71.66, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.513/214.54, Was #20

Dooley launched, shook, and slowed. Montecalvo's run looked good in the first 200 feet of the track, but the car lost a lot of ground between there and half track.

Left Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 6.462/215.93, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.449/215.87, Was #10
Right Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.530/210.87, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.497/211.66, Was #19

No improvement for either driver, both will be looking for more this evening.

Left Lane: Rick Jones Runs 6.451/216.86, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.441/216.29, Was #9
Right Lane: John Bartunek Runs 6.451/217.91, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.480/217.12, Was #16

The rest of the cars are already in the field, so there will be no more bumping this session.

Jones' car made a big wiggle just off the starting line and failed to improve. bartunek made a nice move up the ladder, matching Jones' elapsed time. Now Elijah Morton is on the bump spot at 6.479.


Left Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 6.444/216.29, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.425/216.55, Was #8
Right Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 6.458/215.51, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.475/215.20, Was #15

Gillig shook and made a right-left move right off the starting line, then went down the groove. O'Brien went right down the groove without the early hijinks.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.442/215.62, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.424/216.19, Was #7
Right Lane: Rob Mansfield Runs 6.424/216.34, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.459/215.72, Was #14

Spiess failed to improve on a good-looking run, but Mansfield improved a few hundredths and moved into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 6.446/217.18, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.423/215.25, Was #6
Right Lane: Pete Berner Runs 6.421/216.81, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.420/216.45, Was #4

Both made good-looking runs, but it looks like the left lane is a couple hundredths slower than the right, all other things being equal.

Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 9.123/100.08, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.423/217.33, Was #5
Right Lane: Jeff Dobbins Runs 6.402/218.28, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.415/217.70, Was #3

Nobile's car got way left of the groove early in the run and he lifted.Dobbins picked up a hundredth to move into second spot in the order.

Left Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.414/216.97, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.409/217.02, Was #3
Right Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.423/217.81, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.393/218.28, Was #1

Last pair. Patrick just got nudged down to third on Dobbins' nice run. Still pretty good for a brand-new car.

Both drivers lost a bit from yesterday, Patrick outrunning Gugliotta today.

After two, it's still Gugliotta atop the order and now it's Elijah Morton on the bump spot at 6.479.
