Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

GRAND BEND, Ont. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Alcohol Funny Car at the 2006 eMax Drag Racing Series, Mopar Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 5.968/238.85, Now #1
Right Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 6.542/203.43, Now #2

5:32 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.49 inches, adjusted altitude 1,434 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

Track records for this category are Noakes' 244.23 mph speed and Rob Atchison's 5.727 elapsed time. With these conditions, both marks could fall.

Noakes made a good-looking run. Bogolo's car used up a lot of his lane and he gave it up early.

Left Lane: John Anderika Runs 6.257/213.67, Now #3
Right Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 5.802/240.83, Now #1

This time the longer run was in the left lane, Anderika taking the scenic route. Munroe's car was mostly in the groove after some early tire shake.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.968/237.65, Now #3

This was a good-looking run right up to the point where raw fuel started coming from the pipes and the pressure relief panel went sailing way up in the air, about 1,100 feet down the track.

Left Lane: Larry Dobbs Runs 6.089/231.18, Now #5
Right Lane: Frederick Tigges Runs 6.033/237.84, Now #4

Both cars were a bit sluggish early in the run, shaking the tires enough to leave characteristic "caterpillar tracks" on the launch pad.

Left Lane: Thomas Carter No Time, Now #10
Right Lane: Trevor Lebsack No Time, Now #9

This year, Lebsack has one of the best alcohol crew chiefs in Les Davenport and one of the best alcohol engine builders in Bob Newberry, but we'll never know how good his run was because of staging problems. Both cars pre-staged, then one of the cars briefly staged, then rolled back out of the beam. That started the staging timer and neither car staged before the timer ran out, so both were disqualified for not staging within the specified time, a rare double-red light.

Left Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.864/243.83, Now #2
Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 5.887/246.57, Now #3

Lots of championships lined up here, but neither driver could move Munroe off the top spot.
