POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 41st annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.277/184.98, Now #12; Best prior run: 24.890/38.10, Was #21

2:02 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 29.38 inches, adjusted altitude 930 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Camarena makes a full pass here and gets in the show.


Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.205/183.99, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.974/120.22, Was #21
Right Lane: Thomas Byrd Jr. Runs 7.399/178.95, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.717/158.74, Was #20

Guidera makes a good run here and gets in the show in the ninth spot. No help for Byrd.

Left Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.293/185.33, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.370/180.91, Was #18
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.139/188.10, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.701/139.00, Was #21

Big improvements early in this session. Hale gets in but he's on the bump. Treble makes a big jump to the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.089/187.60, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.343/183.17, Was #17
Right Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.135/188.67, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.456/181.94, Was #21

Sampey makes a big move and gets all the way to the second spot for now. Wells gets in the show. Freddie Camarena is on the bump spot at 7.277.

Left Lane: Tom Bradford Runs 7.251/184.88, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.229/183.64, Was #15
Right Lane: Connie Cohen Runs 7.334/177.98, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.369/178.95, Was #20

Bradford makes a move toward the center-line right out of the gate. He continues to drift to the right, then he gets it straightened out about 400 feet out. Cohen improves but still doesn't get in the show.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 19.157/37.05, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.221/185.41, Was #14
Right Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.198/185.89, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.348/181.67, Was #20

DeSantis has problems right off the line and shuts down. Rivas makes a good, clean pass and gets in the field in the 12th spot.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.190/186.28, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.212/186.43, Was #14
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.218/187.18, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.285/188.02, Was #18

Phillips improves and gets in the show, Scali moves up a few notches. Joe DeSantis is on the bump spot at 7.221.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.152/186.48, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.196/185.18, Was #12
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.129/189.39, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.162/186.85, Was #10

A couple of good runs, the improvements continue. Tonglet gets in the top half of the field, Johnson moves up to the ninth spot.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.039/191.57, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.155/187.55, Was #10
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.186/184.60, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.155/185.21, Was #11

A great pass for Hines and he takes the pole for now. Berry slows, one of the few this round.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.075/190.11, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.141/187.23, Was #9
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.079/188.94, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.091/187.60, Was #4

A good side-by-side here, both right down Broadway. Brown improves and jumps ahead of Ellis on the ladder.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.000/189.71, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.097/189.82, Was #6
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.063/187.91, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.072/185.13, Was #2

Smith makes a great pass, a new track record, and he takes over the top spot. Schnitz makes another good run but drops a spot.
