POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 41st annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Darryl Hitchman Runs 5.771/236.17, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.713/232.07, Was #16
Right Lane: Joe Windham Runs 5.307/269.51, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.344/266.95, Was #3

12:38 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 31 percent, barometer 29.42 inches, adjusted altitude 1,234 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Hitchman had a cylinder out on the left side all the way through the run, then put a hole out on the right side just before he went through the lights and stays on the bump. Windham went right down the groove, improving on his time from yesterday, and stays in the third spot.

Right Lane: Larry Miersch Runs 5.430/258.67, Now #7; Best prior run: 14.276/83.43, Was #21

Miersch gets out of the groove, drifts toward the wall, then puts a hole out on the left side around 800 feet out. He stays on the throttle and gets in the show, bumping out Hitchman in the process. Brown makes a decent pass but slows a little from yesterday's pass and drops to the bump spot.

Johnson gets about 100 feet out and strikes the tires. He pedaled once, then goes on through with a decent run.....but it's all for nothing. Allen makes a decent pass, the scoreboard had him at a 5.563, but he takes out the last timing cone, disqualifying both his and Johnson's run.
