LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: John Mihovetz Runs 6.852/207.15/-0.388, Now #38; AA/AT Index: 7.24, Prior Best: 7.330/182.77/0.090, Was #41

10:05 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 67 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 28.47 inches, adjusted altitude 2,411 feet, track temperature 83 degrees. Eddie Smith is on the bump spot at -0.435.

A pair of AA/Altereds open the second round, one blown, the other on methanol. Today it was Sumek with problems, the engine going silent about 600 feet out. Mihovetz kept the turbos spinning all the way through this one.

Zane slowed almost immediately, the reason not evident from here. The car stopped part way up the hill in the shutdown area. Meanwhile, Wilson bumped into the field. That put Zane on the bump spot at -0.436.

This time, Carter kept the front wheels low and jumped right into the top part of the field, bumping Zane. In a nice side-by-side nostalgia dragster show, Bourgeois also got his problems sorted out and bumped in, but not as far up the order as Carter. Steve Wilmoth is on the bump spot at -0.445.

Tanksley joined the list of those with bad first passes qualifying well into the field this time around. Now David Sumek is on the bump spot at -0.447.

Deceglie came into this round #1, but dropped three spots as he sat in the staging lanes. He came up short, only back up to #2, by a thousandth. Probable Lucas Oil Champion-to-be Taylor also stepped up nicely.

Freeman did not run yesterday and made a nice first pass here. Steve Kalkowski is on the bump spot at -0.499.

Mozeris got down the track today, but was not quick enough to make the cut. Sallee stepped up nicely.

Wilmoth improved four tenths of a second, stayed right where he started in the order. Lion bumped in, putting Ross Wilson on the bump spot at -0.502.

Gebhardt's dragster headed for the centerline on the launch and she lifted, the car stopping partway up the hill.

This was Stull's first trip down the track this weekend. Smith had problems yesterday. Both got in, Smith way up in the order. Now Al Ackerman is on the bump spot at -0.518.

Stone did a nice job of getting off the bump spot. Now Tina Stull is on the bump spot at -0.523. By the way, the record bump is -0.612, at this race last year.
