Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 5.533/181.06, Now #18; Best prior run: 9.241/102.95, Was #20

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 25 percent, barometer 29.89 inches, adjusted altitude 1,587 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

Bartone was on a good looking pass until just past half track when he started to haze the tires.


Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 5.844/159.42, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.772/323.89, Was #9
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.846/315.86, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.893/319.22, Was #15

Johnson Jr. started to smoke the tires around 800 feet and clicked it off. Wilkerson was burning up some pistons on the top end, but still has his best pass of the weekend.

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.806/312.13, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.837/317.27, Was #12
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 15.041/73.36, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.026/269.40, Was #17

Head was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Gilbertson was mixing up cylinders on the top end, but still has his best pass of the weekend.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.815/178.68, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.911/319.37, Was #16
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 7.036/120.95, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.822/324.51, Was #12

Worsham started to lose traction just before half track and clicked it off while Cruz made it a little farther down track before he started to haze the tires.

Left Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 4.768/320.89, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.651/113.59, Was #20
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.354/285.53, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.655/235.68, Was #19

Haddock with his best pass of the weekend, but is still short of getting in the show. Pedregon was able to get it to hook up and keep hitting on all eight through the 1320 to from outside the show to the number nine spot. that will bump out brother Cruz. Gary Densham is on the bump spot at 4.876.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 5.507/179.11, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.737/326.40, Was #7
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 9.805/103.16, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.876/308.00, Was #16

Densham is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Force started to overpower the track and got close to the centerline before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.204/210.34, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.711/326.71, Was #4
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 5.432/190.46, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.731/326.08, Was #6

Bazemore starts to lose traction around 800 feet and Tony makes it a little farther before he start to spin the tires and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 6.603/131.97, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.811/308.07, Was #12
Right Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 5.684/169.96, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.716/326.40, Was #5

Burkart loses traction around 400 feet and clicks it off. Scelzi was up in smoke just past half track.

Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.885/125.33, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.766/324.59, Was #8
Right Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 13.135/76.71, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.698/322.96, Was #2

Medlen is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. Ashley made it to about 400 feet before he lost traction.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.994/244.60, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.711/330.31, Was #3
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 14.795/76.18, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.694/327.82, Was #1

Hight is hazing the tires from 1000 feet on, Capps is up in smoke early and coast on through the 1320.
