Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.474/332.02, Now #1; Best prior run: 12.914/73.49, Was #15
Right Lane: Bill Ancona Runs 5.214/218.65, Now #10; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 38 percent, barometer 29.89 inches, adjusted altitude 648 feet, track temperature 75 degrees.

Schumacher with a great looking pass. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.140, 660ft-3.043/277.03mph, 1,000ft-3.808 Ancona's engine started eating itself up on the top end.

Left Lane: Tim Gibson Runs 4.939/245.00, Now #11; Best prior run: 11.011/72.46, Was #16
Right Lane: John Smith Runs 4.674/287.60, Now #9; No Prior Run

Gibson was mixing up cylinders from 1000 feet on. Smith's engine started eating itself up just before the finish line and then let go with a big fireball. this fire burned for along time and he got the car stopped and the Safety Safari was right there to put the fire out.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.518/328.94, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.026/142.69, Was #13
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.514/329.34, Now #4; No Prior Run

This was a great looking side-by-side drag race with both cars keeping the candles lit and the Goodyear stuck all the way down the 1320. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.153, 660ft-3.066/275.73mph, 1,000ft-3.843
Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.153, 660ft-3.064/275.73mph, 1,000ft-3.840

Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.636/305.08, Now #11; Best prior run: 10.562/79.59, Was #18

It appeared like Beckman got out of the groove and was close to the wall on the top end, but stayed with it to get in the show and that bumped out Grubnic.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 11.472/80.34, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.635/327.74, Was #10
Right Lane: Scott Weis Runs 4.906/234.09, Now #14; Best prior run: 9.440/89.06, Was #18

cory Mac started to lose traction right off the starting line and shut it off. Weis' engine let go with a big fireball right around 1000 feet.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.441/328.06, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.592/319.37, Was #9
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 6.846/116.55, Now #17; Best prior run: 9.380/74.28, Was #18

Grubnic lost traction early and clicked it off. Herbert with a great looking pass, the car had a nice bow to it and it was moving around but a career best E.T. for Herbert. Doug Herbert's incremental times: 60ft-0.833 sec., 330ft-2.107, 660ft-3.003/280.08mph, 1,000ft-3.770

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.458/328.86, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.529/330.31, Was #7
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 6.358/134.39, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.347/112.73, Was #18

Hartley lost traction and clicked it off. Troxel with another great pass and a career best E.T. and the first woman to run in the 4.40's. Melanie Troxel's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.110, 660ft-3.021/276.92mph, 1,000ft-3.790

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 12.009/82.55, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.509/320.81, Was #5
Right Lane: Scott Kalitta Runs 7.837/89.29, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.570/321.88, Was #9

Lucas lost traction early and clicked it off. Kalitta made it to about the 330-foot mark before he smoke the tires.

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.537/325.85, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.493/328.94, Was #4
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.494/328.62, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.536/327.35, Was #8

This was a great drag race to end the day. Bernstein with great pass to move up the ladder. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.143, 660ft-3.052/276.07mph, 1,000ft-3.823 fuller with another great pass. Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.151, 660ft-3.077/273.27mph, 1,000ft-3.858
