Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.655/235.68, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 4.811/308.07, Now #9; Best prior run: 12.285/66.71, Was #19

Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 38 percent, barometer 29.89 inches, adjusted altitude 648 feet, track temperature 75 degrees.

Haddock was mixing up cylinders early in the run but stayed with it. Burkart with a good looking pass with the header flames shooting over the roof.


Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.876/308.00, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.176/116.82, Was #18
Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 7.651/113.59, Now #19; Best prior run: 10.227/83.45, Was #20

Densham with a good looking pass to get into the show. Pedregon was on and off the throttle a couple times before he shut it off.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.716/326.40, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.522/131.88, Was #18
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 8.607/100.73, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.911/319.37, Was #15

Pedregon started to lose traction and pedaled it a couple times and then lifted. Scelzi launched hard and keep the candles lit all the way down the quarter mile to move into the number three spot.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 10.159/77.14, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.026/269.40, Was #17
Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 9.961/87.61, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.837/317.27, Was #12

Both cars start to shake the tires right off the starting line and click it off.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 10.569/80.94, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.893/319.22, Was #15
Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 4.766/324.59, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.784/327.27, Was #9

Wilkerson loses traction early and lifts. Ashley just continues to improve with another career best E.T.Mike Ashley's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.289, 660ft-3.276/259.16mph, 1,000ft-4.082

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 5.665/173.21, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.822/324.51, Was #11
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 10.760/78.63, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.772/323.89, Was #9

Johnson Jr. started to spin the tires early and clicked it off. Worsham got out of the groove and over close to the centerline. He was real loose and finally clicked it off.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.731/326.08, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.769/320.66, Was #8
Right Lane: John Force Runs 6.797/128.80, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.737/326.40, Was #4

Force got out of the groove around half track and clicked it off. Bazemore with great looking pass. Whit Bazemore's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.290, 660ft-3.256/265.06mph, 1,000ft-4.050

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.694/327.82, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.751/322.04, Was #7
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.599/174.50, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.711/326.71, Was #2

Capps with a great pass he just ran his career best E.T.and the fifth quickest ever run in Funny Car and the track record.Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.879 sec., 330ft-2.261, 660ft-3.219/266.06mph, 1,000ft-4.013 Pedregon got out of the groove and close to the wall and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 4.698/322.96, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.737/314.46, Was #7
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.731/327.03, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.711/330.31, Was #2

Medlen with a great pass, his career best E.T. for the number two spot. Eric Medlen's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.270, 660ft-3.222/268.28mph, 1,000ft-4.012 Hight with another good looking pass and he will stay number three.
