Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 4.784/327.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Terry Haddock No Time, Now #2

Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 29.90 inches, adjusted altitude 606 feet, track temperature 76 degrees.

Haddock did his burnout and then the crew shut him off. Ashley with a great looking pass straight down the groove with the quickest and fastest pass of his short Funny Car career. Ashley sets the track mph record.

Left Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 4.869/287.72, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.026/269.40, Now #3

Wyatt with his quickest pass of his career and he shut it off early. Head was loose and all over the track.

Left Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 10.227/83.45, Now #5
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 7.176/116.82, Now #4

Pedregon started to rattle the tires early and clicked it off. Densham got out of the groove and then started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.837/317.27, Now #2
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 9.241/102.95, Now #6

Bartone started to shake the tires and clicked it off. Gilbertson with a real nice looking pass.

Left Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 12.285/66.71, Now #9
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.893/319.22, Now #4

Burkart lost traction right off the starting line. Wilkerson with a good looking pass.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.911/319.37, Now #6
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.822/324.51, Now #2

Pedregon didn't have it hook up all the way down, but still gets into the top half of the show for now. Worsham with a nice pass.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.711/326.71, Now #1
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.769/320.66, Now #2

This was a great drag race. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.273, 660ft-3.235/264.70mph, 1,000ft-4.031
Whit Bazemore's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.286, 660ft-3.265/260.01mph, 1,000ft-4.076

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.772/323.89, Now #4
Right Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 4.737/314.46, Now #2

It appeared Medlen's car was starting to eat itself up from around 800 feet on as it had some real wacky flames. Johnson Jr. with a real nice pass.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.711/330.31, Now #1
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.751/322.04, Now #4

Hight was able to keep it hooked up and hitting on eight all the way thought the 1320. Hight with the track mph record. Capps with a good looking pass.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.737/326.40, Now #3
Right Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 6.522/131.88, Now #15

Scelzi started to drift out of the groove and spin the tires. Force with a nice pass to start the weekend.
