Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Ameriquest Mortgage NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Vinny Arcadi Runs 4.879/303.09, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.075/151.80, Was #24

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 24 percent, barometer 29.10 inches, adjusted altitude 2,467 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.

Arcadi was all over the lane, but he keep it in his lane and runs his career best E.T. and speed. He gets close, but comes up short.


Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 5.395/192.71, Now #25; Best prior run: 5.304/203.28, Was #24
Right Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 4.892/312.42, Now #18; Best prior run: 10.564/84.28, Was #25

Bode was on a good looking pass until just past half track when it started dropping cylinders. Wyatt with a great looking pass for him. This is a career best E.T. and speed for him.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.912/317.19, Now #19; Best prior run: 4.982/268.12, Was #22
Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 4.956/267.64, Now #22; Best prior run: 5.245/213.13, Was #24

Head with his best pass of the weekend, but will not get in. Gilbertson was on a good looking pass until just before the finish line when something let go with a big puff of smoke.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.005/253.04, Now #23; Best prior run: 4.974/302.01, Was #23
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 8.386/95.26, Now #24; Best prior run: 5.142/219.40, Was #24

Creasy Jr. with a engine explosion around 330 feet with a fireball and sent the blower burst relief panel high into the air. No help here for Haddock.

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.862/316.38, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.842/319.98, Was #16
Right Lane: John Lawson Runs 5.081/290.01, Now #21; Best prior run: 4.942/269.29, Was #21

Densham with a good looking pass after slamming into the wall last session.

Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 4.792/317.42, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.800/325.77, Was #15
Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 5.097/229.82, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.787/324.98, Was #14

Ashley was using up the engine on the top end. Bartone with another career best E.T. here. Tony Bartone's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.301, 660ft-3.284/258.27mph, 1,000ft-4.097

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 8.592/100.82, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.768/323.97, Was #11
Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 11.471/72.72, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.773/319.60, Was #12

Burkart is up in smoke right off the starting line and clicks it off. Wilkerson makes it a little further down track before he lost traction.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.732/329.02, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.759/327.74, Was #10
Right Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 4.808/320.36, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.742/320.89, Was #9

Capps with a great looking pass right down the groove for a career best E.T. and mph. Medlen with a good clean pass.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.750/329.18, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.730/329.34, Was #6
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.723/326.87, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.738/328.54, Was #9

Worsham with his career best E.T. and moves into the top half of the show. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.286, 660ft-3.246/265.12mph, 1,000ft-4.040 Bazemore with one of the most consistent cars this weekend.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.702/328.46, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.711/321.65, Was #5
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 11.102/73.56, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.737/325.69, Was #9

Force with his best pass of the weekend. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.279, 660ft-3.238/265.90mph, 1,000ft-4.027 force with the quickest pass of the session. Height lost traction as soon as he hit the throttle.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.728/329.91, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.697/331.28, Was #3
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.808/309.70, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.698/331.45, Was #4

Scelzi with a good looking pass and will stay number three. Johnson Jr with a real good weekend with three really strong pass out of four.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.697/328.14, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.680/320.36, Was #2
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.741/326.48, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.680/330.80, Was #1

Tony with a great looking pass, but will stay number two. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.274, 660ft-3.233/266.74mph, 1,000ft-4.022 Cruz with a good pass and will stay number for the 32nd time in his career.
