Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Ameriquest Mortgage Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.508/329.10, Now #2; Best prior run: 11.041/71.42, Was #19
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.578/325.61, Now #5; Best prior run: 12.723/74.24, Was #22

8:57 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 60 degrees, relative humidity 36 percent, barometer 29.71 inches, adjusted altitude 585 feet, track temperature 75 degrees.

Fuller makes a great run, a career best ET and speed, and he moves into the second spot. Grubnic makes a full pass on this one and gets in the field in the fifth spot.

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 11.896/77.06, Now #21; Best prior run: 10.868/80.34, Was #20
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.466/328.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 11.713/75.96, Was #22

Zizzo strikes the tires right off the line and clicks it off. McClenethan goes right down the groove, running a season best ET, and takes over the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 15.674/77.99, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.074/112.55, Was #19
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.564/325.92, Now #5; Best prior run: 11.288/71.37, Was #22

Novelli goes up in smoke right off the line. Bernstein makes a good, safe pass and gets in the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.491/329.58, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.953/118.95, Was #19
Right Lane: Scott Weis Runs 6.021/146.96, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.656/112.16, Was #21

Weis gets about 300 feet out and the candles go out, not sure why. Kalitta goes right down the groove and gets in the show in the third spot.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.480/325.30, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.942/143.46, Was #19
Right Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 4.682/311.56, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.272/186.61, Was #16

A couple of good runs here, Herbert makes a big jump and moves all the way to the second spot for now. Litton gets off the bump into the 13th spot.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.724/282.01, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.597/174.01, Was #19
Right Lane: Tim Gibson No Time, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.103/198.93, Was #17

Gibson goes up in smoke right off the line. Beckman makes a decent pass to get in the show but loses an engine in the lights.

Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 4.536/326.95, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.404/171.51, Was #19
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 9.853/95.50, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.969/256.60, Was #17

Hartley gets about 300 feet out and goes up in smoke. Troxel goes right down the groove and moves up to the seventh spot.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.520/323.81, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.854/219.22, Was #17
Right Lane: Bobby Lagana Jr. Runs 4.835/308.99, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.778/309.84, Was #16

Lucas keeps the candles lit all the way through the run, moves into the field , and bumps out Lagana.

Left Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 4.669/308.64, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.681/315.42, Was #14

Cullinan makes a career best pass and will stay in the 14th spot.

Left Lane: Scott Kalitta Runs 7.460/96.57, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.565/316.75, Was #10
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 18.590/53.21, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.611/318.99, Was #12

Millican goes up in smoke right off the line. Kalitta makes it a little further and has the same results.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.437/331.77, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.486/325.14, Was #3
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.524/321.73, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.511/326.63, Was #6

A great run by Schumacher here, under the national record. He needs to run a 4.481 or quicker to back it up and claim the record. Dixon makes a good pass, just a little slower than his first pass.
