Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Ameriquest Mortgage NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Vinny Arcadi No Time, Now #25; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 62 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 29.95 inches, adjusted altitude 354 feet, track temperature 69 degrees.

Arcadi launched hard and then started to lose traction and pedaled it and when he did it lifted the front end. When the front end came back to earth it made a quick move toward the centerline and it collected the half track cones again.


Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 0.000/217.70, Now #20; Best prior run: 12.838/59.55, Was #23
Right Lane: Jack Wyatt Runs 10.564/84.28, Now #24; No Prior Run

Wyatt with a lot of tire shake and he clicked it off. Head with a big engine explosion and a lot fire trailing him through the 1320. He has his chutes out early and gets it stopped and the Safety Safari is there on the scene.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.974/302.01, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.507/140.24, Was #22
Right Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 10.560/108.14, Now #23; Best prior run: 9.322/104.32, Was #23

Gilbertson is up in smoke right off the starting line. Haddock was able to get it to hook up and keep them lit on all eight to get into the show. That will bump out Frank Pedregon and put Terry Haddock on the bump spot at 4.974.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.768/323.97, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.235/148.54, Was #22
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 5.495/189.39, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.142/219.40, Was #19

Creasy with a good looking pass until just past half track. Then it appeared to drop some cylinders and got out of the groove and close to the centerline before he lifted. Wilkerson with a nice pass to get into the top half of the show. That will bump out Haddock.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 10.853/78.45, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.304/203.28, Was #19
Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 4.779/318.77, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.996/237.75, Was #16

Bode with problems right off the starting line and clicked it off. Pedregon with a real nice pass to get back into the show.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.680/320.36, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.110/221.89, Was #19
Right Lane: John Lawson Runs 5.431/217.77, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.942/269.29, Was #17

Lawson started to lose traction and clicked it off. Pedregon with a great pass this is the second quickest pass in the history of the sport. Tony now owns two out the three quickest passes. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.250, 660ft-3.203/266.37mph, 1,000ft-3.994

Left Lane: Paul Lee No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.922/269.29, Was #17
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.738/328.54, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.909/250.04, Was #16

Lee was unable to fire the car and is pushed off the starting line. Worsham is on the bubble and he has a good clean pass to get into the top half of the show. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.287, 660ft-3.257/263.15mph, 1,000ft-4.056

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.880/280.02, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.842/319.98, Was #14
Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 4.773/319.60, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.874/297.75, Was #16

Densham was on a good pass, but clicked it off early, not sure why. Burkart launched hard and was able to keep it hooked up all the way through the 1320.

Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 4.811/319.82, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.800/325.77, Was #13
Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 4.787/324.98, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.872/312.71, Was #16

Bartone with another good looking pass. Ashley with his short career quickest and fastest pass to make this the quickest Funny Car field in history. Mike Ashley's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.294, 660ft-3.288/256.70mph, 1,000ft-4.098

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 12.331/75.34, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.759/326.87, Was #8
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.680/330.80, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.804/313.58, Was #15

Capps is up in smoke right off the starting line and clicks it off. Pedregon just like his brother with a great pass and he will take the number one spot from his brother based on speed.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.711/321.65, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.758/325.77, Was #8
Right Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 4.742/320.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.776/324.83, Was #12

Force with a nice pass up until about 1000 feet and then it started moving around a lot. Then after the finish line when he was getting loose his tire went flat, you could see sparks from the headers dragging. Medlen with a good pass to move into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.730/329.34, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.748/329.75, Was #9
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 17.311/73.47, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.737/325.69, Was #6

Hight hit the throttle and it didn't even move off the starting line. Bazemore with another good looking pass and this is his quickest pass of the season. Whit Bazemore's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.297, 660ft-3.260/265.27mph, 1,000ft-4.053

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.697/331.28, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.723/329.83, Was #5
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.698/331.45, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.714/330.47, Was #4

This was a great drag race the quickest side-by-side in the history of Funny Car. Scelzi with his career best E.T. and Johnson Jr. with his quickest and fastest pass in his career. Gary Scelzi's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.268, 660ft-3.229/264.91mph, 1,000ft-4.022
Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.271, 660ft-3.235/266.16mph, 1,000ft-4.023
