By Larry Sullivan

CLERMONT, Ind. - Results of round 2 eliminations in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
7470 Hillary Will 6610 Brandon Johnson
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.091 5.453 266.42 0.079 5.673 258.91
 Prior rounds:
E1 (J Dreher ) 0.076 5.363 267.96 (N Condo ) 0.078 5.465 262.08
 Qualified: #2 5.327 269.46 #7 5.439 260.66
12:46 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 36 percent, barometer 28.95 inches, adjusted altitude 2,438 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

Johnson hazed the tires on the launch, out to about 200 feet, and Will pulled away to a big lead by half track. Her car slowed from her qualifying and first-round pace by about a tenth of a second, but it was still quick enough to win going away.

42 Gene Snow 10 Steve Federlin
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.082 5.292 258.62 0.043 5.431 261.42
 Prior rounds:
E1 (A Force ) 0.109 5.333 246.98 (K Perry ) 0.015 5.441 261.07
 Qualified: #1 5.268 265.53 #9 5.448 260.16
Federlin is usually deadly on the tree, Snow less predictable. Federlin got the starting line edge, as expected, but it was not enough to hold off Snow's A-Fueler, which was on an awesome pace right from the start with a 0.893 60-foot time, erasing Federlin's advantage in the first 60 feet, then pulling away.

717M Aaron Olivarez 33 Marty Thacker
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.088 5.281 269.13 0.043 5.371 266.21
 Prior rounds:
E1 (T Datweiler ) 0.077 5.266 270.05 (J Bohr ) 0.052 5.369 266.42
 Qualified: #3 5.327 267.00 #6 5.415 263.46
Olivarez is running Morgan Lucas' TAD from last year and initially struggled to sort out the combination, but once he got it figured out, he has been a threat this year. Thacker is a veteran driver and is no slouch, with one of the best blown cars in the country. Thacker had the better light and led to half track, then Olivarez' A-Fuel thundered by for the win. Aaron Olivarez's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.013), 330 ft(-0.022), 660ft(-0.001), 1,000ft(0.029). MOV: 0.0456 seconds (approximately 18 feet), easily earning lane choice against Will in the semifinals.

475 Steve Torrence 2 Bill Reichert
E2 ****WINNER**** 0.086 5.294 266.69 0.094 5.346 268.12
 Prior rounds:
E1 (A Gallant ) 0.096 5.241 267.80 (D Hedges Jr ) 0.111 5.358 263.46
 Qualified: #5 5.400 262.64 #4 5.350 270.54
Reichert is the veteran in this matchup, Torrence the newcomer, but Torrence has Tom Conway on his side of the track to even up the score. THGis one was all Torrence, leading all the way and winning going away. Steve Torrence's MOV: 0.0605 seconds (approximately 24 feet). He faces Snow in the semifinals and Snow has lane choice, but only by 0.002 seconds.
