Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #4

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.875/314.31, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.746/324.51, Was #4
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.227/219.12, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.837/321.88, Was #15

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 36 percent, barometer 29.74 inches, adjusted altitude 1,752 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

Pedregon got out of the groove and close to the wall before he clicked it off. Worsham right down the groove.


Left Lane: Eric Medlen Runs 4.897/314.83, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.755/320.66, Was #6
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.984/317.64, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.748/325.77, Was #5

Johnson Jr. started shake the tires and pedaled it one time. Medlen with a nice pass in the heat of the day.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.911/323.35, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.726/326.24, Was #1
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.823/323.81, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.731/326.00, Was #2

Force was smoking the tires as he crossed the finish line. Hight with a good clean and quickest of the session.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.943/309.20, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.763/327.74, Was #7
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.035/254.14, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.010/233.64, Was #20

Cruz lost traction and continues to struggle, he is down to one more session. Scelzi with a good clean pass.

Left Lane: John Lawson Runs 6.990/137.13, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.990/137.13, Was #24
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.835/315.93, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.779/322.65, Was #10

Lawson lost traction right off the starting line. Wilkerson with a great looking pass in the heat of the day.

Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 10.087/111.20, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.213/120.94, Was #25
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 6.200/158.87, Now #22; Best prior run: 5.133/267.69, Was #22

Creasy was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Bode lost traction right before half track.

Left Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 4.911/307.72, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.852/317.79, Was #16
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 9.066/88.46, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.996/284.45, Was #18

Lee loses traction around the 330-foot mark. Burkart with a good pass until he went to pop the chutes and nothing happened. He then started grabbing the brakes and brought it to a bouncing stop right before the sand trap.

Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 0.000/0.00, Now #19; Best prior run: 4.997/281.54, Was #19
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.985/291.89, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.989/282.19, Was #17

Ashley had something break as soon as he hit the throttle and coasted on through the 1320. Haddock with his best pass of the weekend.

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 8.467/106.19, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.827/313.29, Was #12
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 10.264/71.06, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.833/320.51, Was #13

Head started to lose traction early and clicked it off. Gilbertson made it to about 200 feet before he smoked the tires.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.216/213.23, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.769/322.34, Was #9
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.914/311.20, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.835/310.77, Was #14

Capps with a nice looking pass until about 900 feet and then started to haze the tires, and clicked it off. Densham with a real nice pass straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Frank Pedregon No Time, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.732/326.08, Was #3
Right Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 4.861/320.43, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.768/323.81, Was #8

Pedregon was dropping cylinders right off the starting line and drifted toward the wall. Bazemore with another good looking pass.
