Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jeff Wilson Runs 5.788/256.89, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.711/259.61, Was #15
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.350/270.54, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.526/255.05, Was #12

6:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 29.72 inches, adjusted altitude 1,674 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

Wilson hits the throttle and pulls the wheels high into the air. He pedals once, the wheels slam back down on the track, and stays on the throttle through the rest of the run.


Left Lane: Brandon Johnson Runs 5.439/260.66, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.500/260.31, Was #9
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.415/263.46, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.494/260.21, Was #8

A good side-by-side here, they were glued together all the way through the run. Johnson moves into the top half of the field in the sixth spot, Thacker moves up to fourth.

Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 12.186/60.42, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.824/200.86, Was #17
Right Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 6.018/230.69, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.568/256.65, Was #13

Bradshaw came off the line like he was shot out of a cannon, a .920 sixty-foot time, then the engine shut down, not sure why.

Left Lane: Dave Hedges Jr. Runs 5.537/257.38, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.851/241.67, Was #19
Right Lane: Paul Fishburn No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.759/248.07, Was #16

Fishburn rolled the beams and will get no time. Hedges goes right down the groove, making a career quickest run, and bumps Fishburn out of the show. Jeff Wilson is on the bump spot at 5.711.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel No Time, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.195/239.14, Was #22
Right Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.447/258.17, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.511/256.06, Was #10

Samsel was struggling all the way through the run, then the timing system malfunctioned, giving him an ET at the 1000 foot mark. Perry goes right down the groove and moves up into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Noah Condo Runs 5.452/261.32, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.512/259.86, Was #11
Right Lane: Jason Cannon Runs 5.632/235.80, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.830/228.27, Was #19

Cannon makes a decent pass, going right down he groove, and he gets in the show on the bump. Condo makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the eighth spot.

Left Lane: Steve Federlin Runs 5.448/260.16, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.485/261.67, Was #11
Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.865/237.80, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.601/250.09, Was #15

A great run for Federlin, his quickest of the weekend, and he moves into the top half of the field. No help for Dreher.

Left Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.512/257.53, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.456/258.86, Was #10
Right Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 5.498/268.22, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.523/265.90, Was #12

Gallant pulls the wheels on the launch, carries them about 400 feet out, then has to pedal to get the wheels back on the ground. Bohr makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.608/261.62, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.896/244.83, Was #20
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 5.327/269.46, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.460/266.06, Was #11

Force finally gets the car to run on all eight through most of the run and she gets in the show on the bump spot. Will makes an impressive run, right down Broadway, and she moves all the way to the top spot.

Left Lane: Gene Snow Runs 5.268/265.53, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.438/261.32, Was #6
Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.712/259.66, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.087/256.02, Was #21

Snow makes a great pass here, a career best ET in a Top Alcohol car, and he take the pole for now.

Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.327/267.00, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.396/265.90, Was #4
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 6.232/254.86, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.400/262.64, Was #5

Torrence hits the throttle and goes up in smoke. He pedals once and stays on the throttle through the rest of the run. Olivarez makes another good run and moves up to the third spot.

This ends qualifying for this class, with Snow on the pole, his second in this class in his career, and his first at Indy in any event. Ashley Force is on the bump spot at 5.608.
