Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Noah Condo Runs 5.512/259.86, Now #9; Best prior run: 11.297/71.90, Was #21
Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.631/250.41, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.615/250.00, Was #12

12:43 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 93 degrees, relative humidity 27 percent, barometer 29.69 inches, adjusted altitude 2,712 feet, track temperature 111 degrees.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 6.195/239.14, Now #20; Best prior run: 13.177/59.90, Was #22
Right Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 5.568/256.65, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.690/253.18, Was #14

Samsel keeps the slicks stuck this time but doesn't get in the show. Datweiler improves and moves up a few notches.

Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.824/200.86, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.867/199.61, Was #17
Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 6.444/232.31, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.087/256.02, Was #19

Bradshaw was on a pretty good pace, his numbers better than Datweiler's at half-track, then the engine explodes and he slows. Hirata had holes out at the hit and can't improve.

Left Lane: Dave Hedges Jr. Runs 5.851/241.67, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.370/198.64, Was #21
Right Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.948/172.08, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.589/234.61, Was #13

Perry was on a great pass, 3.592 at half-track, then he blows the engine and slows. Hedges runs a career best ET and speed but he still doesn't make the field.

Left Lane: Jeff Wilson Runs 5.862/257.73, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.784/239.74, Was #22
Right Lane: Paul Fishburn Runs 5.759/248.07, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.765/250.64, Was #15

Wilson pulled the wheels, smoked the tires, then got the slicks to bite and made a decent pass. Fishburn runs a career best and stays in the 15th spot.

Left Lane: Jeff Bohr No Time, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.466/259.41, Was #5
Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.535/262.28, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.494/260.21, Was #7

Bohr completes his burnout, begins to stage, then shuts down, not sure why. Thacker makes a doesn't pass but doesn't improve.u

Left Lane: Brandon Johnson Runs 8.507/103.39, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.500/260.31, Was #8
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.526/255.05, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.572/257.24, Was #12

Johnson smoked the tires right off the line, stayed on the throttle for about 300 feet, then gave up on the run.Reichert went right down the groove and moves up a notch to the 11th spot.

Left Lane: Steve Federlin Runs 5.546/254.90, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.485/261.67, Was #6
Right Lane: Jason Cannon Runs 5.830/228.27, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.841/224.58, Was #17

Federlin was on a good run, but then the engine started going away, smoke coming out of the right side header as he went through the lights. Cannon improves but deosn't get in the show.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.952/250.78, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.941/243.46, Was #20
Right Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 8.266/105.20, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.523/265.90, Was #10

Force had a hole out at the hit and never picked it up. Gallant had problems right off the line, then gave up on the run around half-track.

Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.396/265.90, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.410/266.06, Was #2
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 7.883/112.99, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.460/266.06, Was #4

Will rattle the tires about 200 feet out and aborted the run. Olivarez makes a great pass in the heat of the day and moves around Torrence for the pole.

Left Lane: Gene Snow Runs 18.754/52.44, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.438/261.32, Was #3

Snow hits the throttle and goes up in smoke.
