Competition Eliminator Qualifying Notes, Session #1

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:
Left Lane: Bill Morse Runs 9.049/149.36/-0.501, Now #1 G/SM Index: 9.55
Right Lane: Art Hodges Runs 7.585/180.38/-0.415, Now #2 C/A Index: 8.00

1:25 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.43 inches, adjusted altitude 2,067 feet, track temperature 123 degrees.

Eighty cars pre-entered for the 64-car field, so making the field won't be as tough as in some prior years, but the competition during eliminations should be tight.

Two clean runs to open festivities.

Patterson slowed almost immediately and idled through.

Smith broke right off the starting line.
