CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, eighth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Lane 2: Dale Creasy Jr. No Time, Now #3 Lane 3: Chad Head Runs 4.030/292.90, Now #2 Lane 4: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.980/317.12, Now #1 5:16 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.34 inches, adjusted altitude 3,282 feet, track temperature 119 degrees. Creasy had problems and did not make a pass. Head is making his first pass of the year filling in for Alexis DeJoria. Head was drifting a little to the left late in the run but stayed on the throttle and made a decent pass. Tasca makes a clean, straight pass and takes the top spot for now. Lane 2: Bob Bode Runs 4.699/189.60, Now #4 Lane 3: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.232/277.09, Now #3 Lane 4: Cruz Pedregon Runs 7.771/86.80, Now #5 Bode had problems about 300 feet out. Diehl makes a clean pass and gets in the third spot for now. Pedregon has problems early and backs off the throttle. Lane 1: Del Worsham Runs 5.988/115.75, Now #8 Lane 2: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.970/317.12, Now #1 Lane 3: Jim Campbell Runs 4.083/309.20, Now #5 Lane 4: J.R. Todd Runs 3.971/321.19, Now #2 Worsham has problems late and backs off the throttle early. Wilkerson goes right down the groove with a good pass to take the pole for now. He leaves a little oil in the shutdown area and will be charged ten points for his second oildown this year. Campbell makes a clean run to get in the fifth spot. Todd makes a decent pass and gets in the second spot. Lane 1: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 10.618/80.61, Now #13 Lane 2: Jack Beckman Runs 3.970/323.12, Now #1 Lane 3: Robert Hight Runs 4.206/299.40, Now #7 Lane 4: Courtney Force Runs 4.615/176.40, Now #9 Lindberg had problems and was off the throttle early. Beckman makes an impressive pass and moves into the top spot. Hight was on a decent pass but was off the throttle a little early. Force made a little move in the middle of the run and backed off the throttle. Lane 1: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.993/312.86, Now #7 Lane 2: John Force Runs 3.904/328.54, Now #1 Lane 3: Ron Capps Runs 3.905/321.12, Now #2 Lane 4: Matt Hagan Runs 4.593/184.80, Now #12 Johnson makes a decent pass and gets in the seventh spot. Force goes right down the groove with a good pass to take the pole. Capps makes a good pass but was just a tick slower than Force and gets in the second spot. Hagan had problems late and was off the throttle early.
